    Can't you get this information unde FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)?
    yes and no. It is not easy. USCIS has also been sued for not giving the data by an org we know.

    To my best knowledge the PD is set at the I-140 stage. As a matter of fact, there's a field in the administrative part of that form where the PD is stated. Short of saying that it wouldn't be possible to claim an earlier PD at the I-485 stage I would assume that your lawyer should jump much more loops to get you an earlier PD then.

    This is Off-Topic, sorry about that, but this is the best forum i could think of to ask this:

    My father-in-law is visiting us from India, and he is thinking of driving a car here. He drives in India and I think in a couple of weeks (with maybe 2-3 classes with some instructor) he should get the hang of driving. Are there any risks that anyone knows of with this? (if he makes a mistake and ends up in an accident I understand that we end up being personally liable and can even be sued if there is an injured party).

    Edit: This is in California

    In general a person with a valid visa can drive in the U.S. provided the person is in possession of a valid drivers license. However, if he is not on your insurance policy added as a driver and causes an accident, your insurance company is not liable and can refuse to pay the costs. If he is to drive your car, ask your insurance agent about this.

    I always call them and tell them that I am not. Based on my car records, they send the jury notice each time.

    I do not think there is a need to send a copy of passport.

    Did your wife get your back on to H4 visa from H1? What was the procedure that you went with? I also am on H1 in the US and want to move back to H4. I plan to go to mexico and re-enter the US with my previous H4, which is valid till mid 2010. Is there any problem at the port of entry?

    I am very keen to try and get a state chapter from Indiana. There have to be at least half a dozen of us.

    There are millions of Starbucks in the area, maybe we can monopolize a corner in one of them some time.

    From what I have read here then most of the replies are in the Indianapolis and northern suburbs, so I am proposing that we meet this Saturday at the Starbucks in Westfield!

    SA 4319 is not being considered so far. It is not quoted anywhere except IV website. Because CIR is ruled out for 2010 any pro or anti immigrant bill will not be considered most likely. This is just fear that SA 4319 will be attached to any other bill. The chance of passing this bill is 1% without CIR. But with CIR there is 80% chance of attaching with CIR.

    My check was cashed on 08/31. Based on the receipt numbers on the back of the check, online status shows that receipts were mailed on 08/31, but I haven't received till date. On 10/01, I called customer service and made them create service request. No progress so far. I am planning to call sometime next week and find the status of the service request.

    Is anyone in the similar situation of not receiving the receipts even after check has cashed way back.
